Alex Shamoon spent her early years in London before moving to Israel as a teenager. She returned to London in 2004 to study at Central St Martins, completing an Art Foundation course (2004 – 2005) followed by a BA in Jewellery Design (2005 – 2007). Alex’s work show’s an acute appreciation for vivid colour and texture. Her designs are inspired by concrete objects and her works are earthy and practical. She now works from a small studio in her West London flat where she lives with her husband.
Alex’s visual acuity and passion for colours has developed through exposure to the sights and sounds of Tel Aviv, New York and London, all cities where elegant meets rugged in a whirl of activity on every downtown street. Her final jewellery collection, entitled ‘Ever Corroding’, explored the beauty shown by these great cities even as they decay.
Alex was the winner of the Cool Diamonds Central St Martins award for her design of a diamond man-to-man commitment ring. Following her degree show she was selected by a prestigious panel from GQ, Vogue, Evening Standard and Cool Diamonds as one of only 4 Bright Young Gems, the most promising of all young British jewellery designers of 2007. Her works were exhibited at International Jewellery London 2007.
In 2007 and 2008 Alex exhibited works at fairs including New Designers, Islington Business Design Centre, and Handmade in Britain, Chelsea Town Hall.
In 2009 Alex expanded into textiles creating pieces using hand-made, digital and screen print designs. She is currently working on a collection of home accessories using her textiles.
